"Smells of the Canal" Perfumery [academic]
UNDERGRADUATE PROJECT // We were asked to design a small building on the Regents Canal, London. I chose to use a raised part of the towpath and the old storage arches behind the towpath wall, as a site on which a building could sit which celebrated the history of the canal in a sensory and experiential way. The "smells of the canal" perfumery creates scents that evoke the products such as fruit, leather, coal, and ice for making ice creams - all of which used to be transported along the canal and stored at this site before being distributed around London. The scents are released from the factory, through the perfume shop, dispersing into the surrounding area and signalling the presence of the perfumery to passers by before they can even see it.
